MEL 1 – Melis Series Chairs, Leg Base Seating

CHAIR FRAME

• Front legs are 1-3/4" square at the top, tapering to 1-1/4" square at the bottom and radiused on the front outside frame corner.
• The back post is 1-1/2" x 1" at the top, opening to 2-1/4" x 1" at the widest point, just below the seat platen, and tapering to 1-5/8" x 1" at the bottom.
• All vertical and horizontal edges are eased.
• The top of the back post receives a radius on the front and outside edges to match the radius of the top back rail.
• Two lower support stretchers are positioned between the front and back legs and measure 1" x 3/4".
• Upper stretcher supports are located between the front legs and between the back legs and also measure 1" x 3/4".
• Seat rails are 2-1/4" x 3/4".
• All joints are mortised, tenoned, and glued.

CHAIR SEAT – WOOD

• The chair seat is 1" thick solid wood.
• Constructed of glued-up strips not less than 1" or more than 3" wide.
• Seat panels are scooped for seating comfort.

CHAIR SEAT – UPHOLSTERED

• The chair seat is 1/2" thick plywood with the front corners receiving a 1-1/2" radius.
• Includes 1-1/2" thick, 1850 FR Density polyurethane foam.
• Standard fabric is Brodart's grade one.
• Brodart's fabric selections and polyurethane foam are fire rated.
• Fabrics meeting California Technical Bulletin #133 are available.

CHAIR BACK

• The chair back consists of a horizontal top rail, bottom rail, and five vertical slats positioned between the rails.
• The top horizontal rail measures 4" x 3/4".
• The bottom horizontal rail measures 3-1/2" x 3/4".
• The five vertical slats are positioned 1-1/4" apart and measure 1-1/8" x 1/2".
• The horizontal rails are mortised, tenoned, and glued into the back leg posts.
• The vertical slats are mortised, tenoned, and glued into the horizontal rails.

CHAIR ARMS

• Arm measures 2-3/8" x 1" at the front, tapering to 1-1/4" x 1" at the back.
• Arm is attached 2" back from the front of the arm to a J-shaped vertical arm support.
• Vertical arm support measures 1-1/4" x 1" at the top, expanding to 1-5/8" x 1" at its connection point with the side seat rail.
• Vertical arm support is attached to the side seat rail with a wood lag bolt, fastened with a washer and nut.
• Arm is attached to the back post 7-1/2" above the seat platen with a wood screw.
• Screw head is counter-sunk and capped with a wooden cover.

CHAIR GLIDES

• Each chair leg is equipped with a 7/8" diameter rubber cushioned nail glide.

TESTING

• This chair has passed the ANSI/BIFMA X5.1-2002 Type III test.
