It is my pleasure to introduce you to our newly revised and updated
Furniture Planning Guide. But first, I want to take this opportunity to
sincerely thank all our customers that have supported our business, and
for the benefit of any new administrators unfamiliar with us, briefly recount
our humble beginnings.
I started my career in the School Furniture business with American
Desk Manufacturing Company in 1958 and remained in their employ
until the company closed in 1997. That is the year I decided to start my
own company. My only break in employment while at American Desk
was in 1961-62 when then President Kennedy activated the National
Guard’s 49th Armored Division during the Berlin Crisis. (Many people
confuse our activation with the Cuban Missile Crisis which occurred on
or about the same time.) In 2000, my company A. Bargas & Associates
became an LLC. I will never forget our first furniture order, courtesy of
Hondo ISD. I was one happy camper even though we lost fifty dollars
on the order because of a miscommunication between a supplier and I.
Hondo ISD got the order they wanted and my company continued to
grow; we learned many valuable lessons along the way.
~ A Message from the CEO/President ~
Chico Bargas and Abbie
We must teach our children about the past, teach them to accept and live in
the present, but most importantly we must teach them to look to the future.
—Chico Bargas
There have been some good years and some difficult years. Like for many, Covid created challenges for us too.
Material shortages, especially, linger. However, at A. Bargas & Associates, LLC., we strive to find ways to satisfy
the needs of our customers. To combat the material shortages, our working partner and main furniture supplier
Columbia Manufacturing Company established a BUILD and HOLD program. The school district selects their
furniture and releases an order to us. Then, we inform Columbia to build and store the furniture in their warehouse
until the school advises us that the buildings are ready for the installation. There is no cost to the district until
the furniture is received and installed.
Our Furniture Planning Guide displays LIST PRICING. School districts benefit from excellent discounts off list
pricing based on quantity. Our Guide helps school districts' plan their furniture selections so they can establish a
budget and forecast the funds required for a timely order processing and installation.
I've been asked many times how we wound up with a Scottie as our company mascot. My wife had Scottish Terriers
as pets from the time she was a toddler to an adult. On the way back from a business trip in Dallas, we stopped in
Temple to visit some of our relatives. We are both from the Temple area and went to Temple HS -- Go Wildcats!
There was an article in the Sunday Temple newspaper about a family in Belton looking for a good home for a
Scottie pup. We made arrangements to meet with the family and picked up our first Scottie together and named
him Shamus. On the drive home, my wife commented how all school districts had a mascot and suggested we
make Shamus our company mascot. Shamus was with us for 15 + years and was the greatest little creature on earth.
Today, we have another adorable Scottie named Abbie - and so the tradition continues.
With my wife and daughter as retired educators, and through years of experiences and client stories, we deeply
value the contributions of teachers, staff, and administrators. On behalf of A. Bargas & Associates, LLC, thank you
for your dedication and hard work in educating students across the state of Texas.
Sincerely,
A. Chico Bargas, CEO/President
